Vocabulary is an important part of a child's reading experience. They may read hundreds of books but may not know some of the meanings of the words. As your child reads, be sure to have a dictionary available and a notebook for vocabulary words they discover while reading. This can only enhance their ability to comprehend but use the knew words they learn in new contexts.

- Have your child make and decorate their own vocabulary book
- Challenge your child to find a new word for the day and then the family uses that word for the next two days around the house!
- Challenge your child to find a vocabulary word for every letter of the alphabet.
